Title:
MANUFACTURE OF BINDING RESIN FOR TONER
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3373325
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To lower the overall production cost in the manufacture of a polyester binding resin for toners, by adding a polyester resin recovered from waste into a reaction system, and carrying out a polymerization while decomposing the polyester resin under specified conditions.
CONSTITUTION: In a method of producing a binding resin for toners that is made of a polyester resin by a polycondensation reaction, a polyester resin recovered from waste into a reaction system is added into the reaction system and a polymerization is carried out while the polyester is decomposed in the presence of an alcohol and/or water. Preferably, the polyester resin recovered from waste is a recycled polyethylene terephthalate. In this production method, preferably the polymerization is carried out while the ethylene glycol produced by the decomposition of the added polyester resin is removed outside the reaction system. Preferably the binding resin has a softening point of 85 to 170°C and a glass transition temperature of 45 to 80°C.
