Supporting jigs 7 and 8 fixing a workpiece 2 are arranged on the arrangement side of a rotary tool 1 and on the opposite side. The supporting jigs 7, 8 are provided with revolving mechanisms. The supporting jigs 7, 8 are mounted on a supporting mechanism 9 and are provided with structures interlocking with the upper and lower parts of the workpiece 2 and automatically moving in the vertical direction. Further, the jigs 7, 8 move by interlocking with the moving of the welding direction of the rotary tool 1. The rotary tool 1 is mounted on a motor 10 and moves in 5 directions, revolving in 4 directions. The rotary tool 1 is provided with a mechanism following deformation of the vertical direction of the workpiece 2 and automatically moving in the vertical direction. Thus, frictional resistance of the workpiece 2 and the fixing jigs is reduced. Therefore, even a long workpiece 2 such as a railway rolling stock can be easily and stably fixed.
