PURPOSE: To manufacture a lightweight hollow cam shaft having highly wear- resistant cam part, etc. by attaching a wear resistant member to the position of the cam part etc. of a casting space, supplying molten metal to the casting space and rotating the mold.
CONSTITUTION: A mold having a casting space 5c of the shape corresponding to a cam shaft 4 provided with a cam part 4a and a journal part 4b is mounted in a molding flask 1. Wear-resistant members 6, 7 for forming a cam face and journal face are attached to the casting space 5c that forms the cam part 4a and/or journal part 4b. The end of the mold is fixed by a pressing plate 8 and a wedge plate 9. The molding flask 1 supported by a bearing 3 is rotated in a body with the mold and wear-resistant members 6, 7 at specified speed by a rotation driving mechanism 2 and molten metal is poured from the opening of the mold. The molten metal encloses the wear-resistant members 6, 7 strongly by centrifugal force, and at the same time, forms a highly accurate hollow part 4c at the core part of the cam shaft 4.
