PURPOSE: To provide the method for manufacturing a casting made of an aluminum allay in which the improvement of material strength, i.e., the improvement of wear resistance is attained by making the shape of Si acicular while its thermal impact resistance is secured, in particular, to provide the method for manufacturing a piston in which the abnormal wear of top ring grooves is dissolved while its wear resistance is secured and showing excellent sliding properties.
CONSTITUTION: The sliding part of a casting made of an aluminum alloy, in particular, the top ring grooves of a piston is fed with a P contg. member, which is subjected to heat treatment such as T6 treatment to incorporate the P-contg. member into the sliding part and to make the shape of Si acicular, by which it is provided with wear resistance.
