Title:
MANUFACTURE OF CHROMIUM-CONTAINING STEEL
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS6233742
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To prevent the occurrence of slopping by specifying a charge of the carbon-containing material to be added in manufacturing a chromium-containing steel by reduction of chromium oxide in a chromium ore.

CONSTITUTION: The chromium ore is charged into a converter which is previously charged with a molten steel to undergo blowing. Simultaneously, the carbon- containing material such as coke, etc., is charged to reduce the chromium oxide in the chromium ore and allow the chromium to yield in the molten steel. At this time, the charge of the carbon-containing material is regulated so that (carbon content in the carbon-containing material/formed slag volume) ≥0.05 is satisfied. In this way, slag formation is controlled and the occurrence of slopping can be prevented and further the yield of chromium can be improved.
