To obtain an excellent heat resistant composite material not requiring a pressurizing device, easy in manufacturing large products and easy in near net molding by forming a preform having a powder filling ratio of a given volume % with silicon carbonate powder, and bringing it into contact with a molten Ti alloy in a vacuum or Ar under a normal pressure.
In this metal/ceramics composite material manufacturing method, a reinforcing material, namely ceramics powder or fiber, is mixed with a base material, namely a metal. In this case, a Ti alloy is used for the metal and a silicon carbonate powder having an average grain diameter of 3 μm or more, preferably 10-100 μm, is used for the ceramics powder or fiber. According to this method, a preform having a powder filling ratio of 30-80 volume % is formed of the silicon carbonate powder, and the molten Ti alloy is brought into contact with the formed preform in a vacuum or Ar under normal pressure, whereby the Ti alloy penetrates through the preform.
