To provide a cylindrical body manufacturing method that can manufacture a cylindrical body of extremely high accuracy.
A workpiece 3 is fitted to a main spindle 4a (in case of cantilever machining) or the main spindle 4a and an auxiliary spindle 5a (in case of twin machining) through chucks 7, 8. Since the respective spindles 4a, 5a are rotated with superior accuracy to the machining accuracy of the respective spindles 4a, 5a by what is called averaging effect, a rotary shaft smaller in roundness error than the respective spindles 4a, 5a can be manufactured by grinding the workpiece 3 using a grinding wheel 10. After executing two processes of manufacturing the rotary shafts and replacing the manufactured rotary shafts of high accuracy with the respective spindles 4a, 5a of the main spindle 4 and auxiliary spindle 5 specified times, the workpiece 3 is ground using the spindles 4, 5 replaced with the rotary shafts, capable of manufacturing a cylindrical body of extremely high accuracy (a cylindrical body with a roundness error of 0.05 μm or less, for instance).
