PURPOSE: To enable mass production, by a method wherein a work molded in a spherical state is made into a cylindrical state by feeding it into a centerless grinder with reference to manufacture of a cylinder having a curvature on both ends in an axial direction and a small ratio between a length and the diameter.
CONSTITUTION: A grinding wheel 1 is so constituted that a work W fed on a blade 3 is capable of making through feed machining along a grinding cylindrical surface of the wheel 1, by forming a tapered part 4 for supply to introduce the work W made into a sphere on one end part of the grinding cylindrical surface and between a regulating wheel 2 and the wheel 1. Then, a cylindrical roller having a desired length and diameter and making both end faces into a part of a spherical surface having an appropriate radius of curvature can be obtained by machining the work W molded into a sphere easily and precisely by making use of a centerless grinder. Mass production and a cost reduction of the cylindrical roller whose L/D is less than 1.6 especially can be contrived when through feed machining is done by the centerless grinder.
