Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain an electrochromic (EC) desplayer having a long life by forming an insulating film on a patterned transparent electrode laid on a transparent substrate except the display section, electrodepositing a transition metal, and oxidizing it to form an EC layer.

CONSTITUTION: For example, in the manufacture of a display substrate having a "hi"(Japanese:kanji,467C)-shaped figure display section, a transparent electrode laid on a transparent substrate 1 is etched and divided into regions 2 each contg. a display part 9 (oblique line part) by a photolitho-graphic method as shown by the lines. After forming an insulating film such as an SiO2 film on the electrode except the display parts 9, a transition metal such as tungsten is electrodeposited only on the exposed transparent electrode parts, and the deposited transition metal is anodically oxidized to form a "hi"(Japanese:kanji,467C)-shaped EC layer made of transition metallic oxide such as WO3.
