Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain uniform orientation performance stable for a long term, by coating an electrode plate having a conductive film with an organic solvent type film-forming soln., drying it at room temp., and then, executing heat treatment and orientation treatment.

CONSTITUTION: A conductive film is patternwise formed on a glass or the like base of a liq. crystal display device to form an electrode plate, and this electrode plate is coated with a polyimide precursor soln., thermosetting epoxy resin, or the like, and heated to form a hardened film and to make orientation treatment. At that time, it is dried at room temp. to finger-felt dryness, and then, subjected to prescribed heat treatment. If it is dried immediately after coating, a low-boiling org. solvent is abruptly evaporated, resulting in forming a nonuniform film due to formation of uneven dehydration ring closure, etc., nonuniform orientation occurs in the following rubbing orientation treatment, and further, trouble, such as oozing near the segment electrodes, occurs during long term use. Said improved process permits an orientation treated film stable and superior in adhesive strength to the base to be obtained.
