To cope with a design change so as to efficently manufacture linear electrodes of high accuracy, in a manufacturing technology of an electrode substrate of a PDP(Plasma Display Panel).
This technology is to manufacture an electrode substrate of a plasma display panel in which a number of transparent of linear electrodes 20 are arranged in parallel on a surface of a transparent substrate 10. Practically, a laser beam L is irradiated onto the transparent substrate 10 having a transparent conductive film serving as the linear electrodes 20 on the surface. Using an opening 62 formed through a shielding plate 60 arranged in a radiation path of the laser beam L, a shape of cross section of the laser beam L irradiated onto the transparent substrate 10 is controlled, while by relatively moving an irradiating position of the laser beam L and the transparent substrate 10, the transparent conductive film is sequentially removed corresponding to the cross section shape of the laser beam L. As a result, the remainder of the transparent conductive film form the linear electrodes 20.
