To efficiently form a substrate useful for forming a liquid crystal cell with excellent thickness or the like comprising an optical retardation sheet, a gas barrier layer and an epoxy hardening sheet superimposed together.
The method for manufacturing the epoxy substrate sheet comprises successively running a long size optical retardation sheet 1 and continuously manufacturing a substrate 6 consisting of a gas barrier layer 2 and an epoxy resin hardening layer 3 successively adhered and superimposed on the optical retardation sheet through an operation of successive sheet-like extension of coating liquids (22, 32) thereon and their film forming (23, 33) and the epoxy substrate sheet comprises the optical retardation sheet for optical compensation and the epoxy resin hardening layer adhered and superimposed through the gas barrier layer respectively without any interposing adhesive layer. Thereby the epoxy substrate sheet with various physical properties having excellent optical characteristics, thinness and gas barrier characteristics can be continuously manufactured with simple operations and a thin liquid crystal cell, of which the mass production speed and the thickness can easily be controlled and the liquid crystal is hardly deteriorated, can efficiently be formed.
