PURPOSE: To manufacture an expanded metal type rolling material having a good quality at a low cost, by rolling a steel plate by tandem rolling mill consisting of a rolling stand of a roll having a projecting part, and a flat roll, and a rolling stand by a flat roll.

CONSTITUTION: A steel plate 6 is rolled by the first stand consisting of an upper roll 7 provided with a lot of projecting parts 9, and a lower roll 8 of a flat roll, and a rolling material 11 having a recessed part 10 formed by a projecting part 7, on the surface of the steel plate 6 is obtained. Subsequently, it is rolled by the second stand of upper and lower rolls 12, 12 consisting of a flat roll, is rolled to a rolling material 4 whose recessed part 10 has become a through-hole 10, and finally, is rolled by the third stand of upper and lower rolls 15, 15 consisting of a flat roll, and a rolling plate 17 of an expanded type product, having a through-hole 16 of an elliptical shape, which has expanded the diameter of a through-hole 13 is manufactured. Since there is no conventional cut-rolling process, a rejected product due to such a defect as insufficient notching, etc. is not generated, and an expanded metal type rolling material having an excellent quality can be manufactured with high yield.
