To affix lead alloy foil to a predetermined position on a lead band with high accuracy by making a hoop material of the lead alloy foil fed to a predetermined position in the widthwise direction of the surface of the rolled lead band before expanded in a grid-like form bite into the lead band by sequentially crimping it while partially interlaying spaces.
A crimping roller 4 and a pressing guide roller 5 lifted by a cylinder 6 so as to pass a hoop material 13 which is pulled out through a guide roller 11 and of which tip is tentatively fixed to a locking member 13 under them are lowered when a continuously cast lead band 1 passed above guide rollers 3 and has been fed to a multi-stage rolling machine 2. At that time, the hoop material 7 is pressed against the lead band 1 by the guide roller 5 and intermittently crimped by plural projections 4a on the circumferential surface of the rotating crimping roller 4 to bite into the lead band 1 and thereafter, its tip part automatically comes off from the locking member 13. Therefore, since the hoop material 7 is positioned and crimped to the lead band 1, its positional deviation never occurs in the rolling process.
