Abstract:

PURPOSE: To increase the decorative value of an external member of Ti (alloy) for a watch by brazing an Au alloy to part of the surface of the member in vacuum after forming an Ni-Pd or Ni-Cu layer on the part by plating.

CONSTITUTION: The surface of the external member 1 of Ti (alloy) for a watch is recessed, the surfaces of the recesses are well activated, and layers 6 of Ni- Pd, Ni-Cu or the like are formed on the activated surfaces by plating. The member 1 is then nitrided to form a TiN layer 7 on the surface except the plated parts. Au alloy parts 2 are put in the recesses after putting brazing filler metal, and they are brazed at 600W830°C in vacuum. The diffusion of Au into Ti is prevented by the TiN layer 7, and the external member for the watch having a fine appearance is obtd.
