PURPOSE: To obtain a composite material having excellent compoundability and having less breaking of a fiber by spraying a molten matrix metal onto a fiber arranged in one direction to form a prepreg sheet, alternately laminating said sheet and a metallic sheet and subjecting the laminate to heating and pressurizing.
CONSTITUTION: The bundle of a long fiber consisting of SiC, Si-Ti-C-O, etc., is split and is arranged, on which a matrix metal such as Al melted by plasma thermal spraying, etc., is sprayed to form a prepreg sheet. The sheet and a metallic sheet are alternately laminated and the laminate is heated and pressurized in a mold or the like to form a fiber reinforced metallic composite material. At the time of using a metal same as that of the matrix or the alloy thereof for the metallic sheet, the composite material can be made uniform.
