MANUFACTURE OF FIBROUS PREFORMED BODY FOR FIBER REINFORCED COMPOSITE MATERIAL

Abstract:

PURPOSE: To surely obtain the title preformed body in which short fibers are oriented in one direction by using a slurried molding material of which short fibers are dispersed into a liquid and applying pressurizing force thereto from a specific direction in a mold.

CONSTITUTION: A slurried molding material C of which short fibers of SiC whiskers, etc., are dispersed into water or the like is poured into a cavity 3 and a part of the liquid is discharged from a drain hole 6. A pressurizing punch 5 is fallen down and the molding material C is subjected to primary pressurizing from a pressurizing direction P1 while the liquid is removed to mold an intermediate body 8. The intermediate body 8 is rotated by 90 degrees around the center line in the longitudinal direction and the secondary face S2 to be pressurized vertical to the primary face S1 to be pressurized is upturned. The pressurizing punch 5 is fallen down and the intermediate body 8 is subjected to secondary pressurizing from the pressurizing direction P1 while the liquid is removed to obtain a fibrous preformed body 1. The ones vertical to the pressurizing direction P1 of whiskers W are retained in the state as it is and the ones not vertical are oriented so as to be vertical. In this way, the preformed body for fiber reinforced composite material having no damage of short fibers or the like can easily be obtd.
