PURPOSE: To manufacture the foamed metal in which fine foams are uniformly dispersed by transforming a molten metal into a semimolten metal having a specified solid phase rate, blowing an inert gas therein while stirring is executed so that the average grain size of the crystalline grains is regulated to a specified value and thereafter cooling and solidifying the semimolten metal.
CONSTITUTION: A graphite crucible 1 in an stirring drum 4 is preliminarily heated to a prescribed temp. by a high frequency heating coil 2, and a molten metal 7 is poured into the crucible 1 and a stirring drum furnace cover 3 is set on the stirring drum 4. Next, an Ar gas is blown therein via a vent 10 to replace air in the stirring drum 4 while the molten metal 7 is stirred by rotating a rotary shaft 5 so that the molten metal 7 is not solidified. After the replacement of air, cooling water is passed through the heating coil 2 and water-cooling jackets 11 and 12, and the molten metal 7 is rapidly cooled and is transformed into a semimolten metal in which the solid phase rate in the solid-liquid two phase metal is regulated to 10 to 50%. Then, an Ar gas is blown therein while stirring is executed so that the average grain size of the crystalline grains as a solid phase is regulated to ≤1mm, and the semimolten metal is thereafter cooled and solidified. In this way, the foamed metal in which refined foams are uniformly dispersed can be obtd.
