PURPOSE: To form a desired linear pattern to the surface of a glass globe with simple procedure, by applying an enamel layer to the surface of the globe, scratching the layer in the desired pattern, and sintering the enamel.
CONSTITUTION: The surface of a glass globe 1 for a lighting fixture is coated with an enamel 10 containing the same kind of glass as that of the globe, and the coating layer 10 is scratched with a proper scratching tool in a linear pattern to expose the scratched part of the glass. The globe is heated at the sintering temperature of the enamel 10 to effect the sintering and fixing of the linear pattern to the surface of the globe 1. A linear pattern can be formed without using molten glass, and accordingly, the energy consumption can be reduced. The process enables the formation of fine linear pattern, and improves the appearance of the globe as a whole.
