Title:
MANUFACTURE OF GLASS SPHERE USED FOR THERMAL IONIZATION GAS CHROMATOGRAPHY DETECTOR
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3177033
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To make glass sphere homogeneous and to improve the reproducibility by passing a support wire of noble metal via the fragment of a capillary tube formed of glass containing alkali metal, melting it and forming the sphere.
CONSTITUTION: A glass tube containing rubidium or cesium is heated, and drawn out to a capillary tube. A fragment 10 having the amount corresponding to the size of a predetermined glass sphere is cut out from the tube. A platinum or rhodium and platinum support wire 12 is passed to the fragment 10. Further, the wire 12 is welded to a pair of conductors 14, 16 supported to a heat insulation spacer 18. The ends of the conductors 14, 16 are connected to a power source 20. Thus, DC power flows to the wire 12 to heat, melt the fragment 10 to form a predetermined glass sphere 22. The sphere 22 thus formed has an oval shape and hence a predetermined length along the wire 12.
