Abstract:
PURPOSE: To manufacture ductile cast iron having high strength and ductility in a short time by subjecting cast iron contg. specified amounts of C, Si, Co, Al, Mo, Cu and Ni to isothermal heat treatment under proper conditions.
CONSTITUTION: Cast iron contg. 3.0W4.0% C, 2.0W3.0% Si, 0.1W0.4% Mn, ≤2.0% Co, ≤0.08% Al, ≤0.3% Mo and at least one between 0.2W2.0% Cu and 0.2W2.0% Ni is subjected to isothermal heat treatment by holding at 820W880°C for 0.5W5hr, immediate quenching to 350W400°C and holding at the temp. for ≥0.5hr. The time required to heat the cast iron to austenitize it is shortened, the cast iron can be austenitized at a lower temp., and ductile cast iron having high strength and ductility is obtd.
