PURPOSE: To obtain the subject highly compressed paper, a foil-like paper provided with various functions, e.g. flexibility, dimensional stability and water- tightness, produced by glaze-finishing a mixture having a specific degree of grinding and comprising pulp and thermoplastic synthetic resin, and useful as a printing medium and advertisement support.
CONSTITUTION: This method mixes (A) pulp with (B) thermoplastic synthetic fibers. (e.g. 0.5 to 6 mm long polyethylene fibers finished hydrophilic) in the ratio of (50:50) to (90:10), and treats the mixture with (C) sizing, retention and wetting agents, and if applicable, filler materials, to produce the paper sheet with a degree of grinding of 35 to 75 SR. The paper sheet is subjected to sizing, as necessary, and compressed by a multiple roll type glazing machine under the conditions of glazing roller surface temperature of 100°C or higher, linear roller pressure of 30 kn/m or more and tension of 0.9 kg/dm3 or more, to produce the highly compressed paper sheet. This highly compressed paper is used to produce the supporting material for coating.
