PURPOSE: To enhance a manufacturing efficiency by mounting a sheathing mate rial on a film capacitor element while sealing a front or rear surface of the member by printing means or in the step after sealing.

CONSTITUTION: A cover film of a sheathing member 3 is fed from a sheath member feeding reel 6, and wound on a take-up reel 4. Then, a pair of metallized films 2 which have a function as inner electrodes are laminated and wound in multilayers. Further, in order to sheath it from above it, the several members 3 are lap wound, printing means 7 is operated without stopping an apparatus, and a capacitance value, etc., is printed on the film 3. After printing, the film 3 is lap wound from above as it is to form a sheath. Then, in order to an external electrode 11 on a wound side surface, a base element is formed by metal flame spraying, and then the element is finely cut thereby to obtain chip film capacitors B.
