Abstract:

PURPOSE: To improve the life of a storage battery by enhancing the corrosion resistance of a positive grid or the like consisting of a Pb-Ca system alloy by casting the Pb-Ca system alloy before only particles existing in the surface part of the casted body is preferentially dissolved.

CONSTITUTION: After a molten lead-calcium system alloy is cooled and solidified, only the surface of the solidified body is dissolved by use of solution which can dissolve lead and a lead alloy. That is to say, after an alloy consisting of Pb, 0.08wt% Ca and 0.5wt% Sn is molten by being heated to 450°C before casting is performed with a mold at 150°C, the casted body is immersed in liquid consisting of 20pts.vol. acetic acid, 10pts.vol. hydrogen peroxide and 100pts.vol. water for one minute to dissolve the surface of the lead alloy member 1. As a result, easily corroded particles are prevented from forming on the surface part. Consequently, the expansion of the lead alloy member which may be caused due to the generation of an oxide can be suppressed, and the lead alloy member can not easily be broken.
