Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a lens high in refractive index, by hardening in a mold for a lens a curable composition that contains an epoxy (meth)acrylate and one or more vinyl monomers having a boiling temperature of 100°C or above.

CONSTITUTION: A curable composition is prepared by mixing 100pts.wt. epoxy (meth)acrylate obtained by reacting acrylic acid and/or methacrylic acid with an epoxy resin produced by condensing bisphenol A and/or bisphenol F with epichlorohydrin and 10W500pts.wt. one or more vinyl monomers having a boiling temperature of 100°C or above such as vinyl esters, styrene, etc. If desired, a photosensitizer is added to the composition. The composition is injected into a mold for a lens and after irradiating with an activating energy ray, the intended lens is removed from the mold.
