Abstract:

PURPOSE: To manufacture incombustible lumber readily positively which is adaptable as an opening member and usable as a building interior and exterior material according to the new Building Standards Act.

CONSTITUTION: The manufacture of lumber and metal oxide composite is that a lumber is immersed in a metallic alkoxide solution, and thereafter the lumber is taken out of the solution and is then subjected to hydrolysis and pyrolysis, whereby the metallic alkoxide is converted into a nonflammable and insoluble metallic oxide and, further, an organic halogen compound is impregnated in the lumber or applied on the surface layer of the lumber, thereby endowing the lumber with fire resistance.
