Title:
MANUFACTURE OF METAL-CERAMIC COMPOSITE MATERIAL
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH111731
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

To manufacture the large sized parts of the composite material having excellent quality reducing the generation of a pore even without rapid cooling by penetrating the alloy mainly composed of Al containing the specified quantity of Zn or Cu into the preform using ceramic as the reinforcing material at the specified temperature.

The alloy mainly composed of Al individually or together containing 0.5-10 wt.% Zn or Cu is penetrated as the penetrating metal into the preform formed with a ceramic fiber or grain being the reinforcing material at 700-1000°C. The fusion of the penetrating Al alloy is transferred to the side of low temperature, the viscosity of fused Al alloy becomes high, the fused metal becomes difficult to transfer, whereby the generation of the pore due to shrinkage is restrained. Si, Mg or the like is cited as the metallic element to be added besides Zn, Cu. Powder of SiC or Al2O3 having the average grain size of about 1-150 μm is cited as ceramic powder for the reinforcing material.
