To manufacture a metal plate having a deep sinking pattern whose surface property is excellent through a simple process.

The metal plate 1 is held between a die 10 wherein plural recessed parts or opening parts 11 are formed with a prescribed pattern and a soft elastic body 20, extended parts corresponding to the pattern of the recessed parts or opening parts 11 are formed in the metal plate 1 by press- forming. The soft elastic body 20 is regulated in the surface roughness of 0.05-0.2 mm in ten-point average roughness R2 so as not to come into close contact with the metal plate 1 after forming. Thus, since air easily invades between the extended parts 2 formed in the metal plate 1 and expanded parts 21 of the soft elastic body 20, the metal plate 1 and the soft elastic body 20 are not brought into close contact. Therefore, recesses attending on the contraction of the expanded parts 21 are not generated and formed products are easily released from the die.
