PURPOSE: To manufacture a satisfactory composite material member without generating a casting defect by forming a groove or plural pieces of projecting parts separated from each other on the lower face of the part which becomes an overhang state of a formed body.
CONSTITUTION: A ring-like porous reinforcement formed body 20 which consists of Al powder 10, Ni powder 12, Ti powder 14 and SiC powder 16, has plural pieces of grooves 18, and whose porosity is a prescribed value is formed by mixing Al powder, Ni powder, Ti powder and SiC powder being a reinforce ment, and executing its compression molding by a compression molding device. Subsequently, a casting device 26 for manufacturing a piston, consisting of the upper mold 22 and the lower mold 24 is prepared, the outside peripheral part of the formed body 20 is inserted and held between the upper half part 24a and the lower half part 24b of the lower mold, by which in an overhang state protruded to the inside in the diameter direction from the lower mold, the formed body 20 is placed in a prescribed position in the lower mold, and a molten metal 28 of an Al alloy is poured into the lower mold, and solidified. In such a way, generation of a casting defect such as a casting blowhole is prevented.
