This device has a stage 203 for causing the relative travel of ink jet heads 260 and 261 and a color filter substrate 205, adjustment mechanisms 290 and 291 for causing the turn of ink jet heads 260 and 261 along the scanning direction, and making the positional adjustment thereof along the scanning direction as well as another direction orthogonal therewith, a position detecting optical systems 270 and 271 for detecting the landing position of ink discharged from the ink jet heads 260 and 261 to the color filter substrate 205, and a control device for adjusting the positions of the ink jet heads 260 and 261 on the basis of the position of ink dots detected with the position detecting optical systems 270 and 271, and formed on the color filter substrate 205 via ink discharged from at least two nozzles of the ink jet heads 260 and 261.
