PURPOSE: To obtain a coke having excellent wear resistance and excellent CO2 reaction strength for metallurgical purpose, by a method in which a treated coal obtained by heating a weak-caking coal with high volatile content at a specified temperature rising rate is ground, screened, mixed with a bituminous substance, granulated by a rotary granulator, and then carbonized.
CONSTITUTION: A weak-caking coal with high volatile content is heated up to 300°C at a temperature rising rate of 20°/min or more, beyond 300°C at a temperature rising rate of 10°/min or less, and then held at 450W550°C for treatment to remove volatile components to obtain a heat-treated coal. The heat-treated coal thus obtained is ground, screened, mixed with a coal or petroleum bituminous substance, granulated by a rotary granulator at a temperature higher than the solftening point of the bituminous substance, and then subjected to a carbonization treatment. The reason for the treatment of the weak-caking coal at a temperature- rising rate of 20°C/min in a temperature range below 300°C, as mentioned above, is that degassing hardly occurs in coal below 300°C and thus the quality of the coal is hardly affected by the temperature rising rate.
