Title:
MANUFACTURE OF NONMAGNETIC HIGH-MANGANESE STEEL
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS5782452
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a high-Mn steel of high quality with an inexpensive Mn source by adding ferroalloy to a molten low-C low-P steel while arc-heating the molten alloy to adjust each of the C, Si, Mn and N contents to a prescribed percentage.

CONSTITUTION: A molten low-C low-P steel is well freed of slag and discharged into a ladle. The ladle is carried in a vaccum arc degassing apparatus, where the molten steel is arc-heated from the upper part of the ladle and agitated by blowing an inert gas from the nozzle. Ferromanganese is then added to the molten steel to adjust the C, Si, Mn and N contents to ≤1.5% C, 0.1W1.5% Si, 5W30% Mn and 0.005W0.5% N. Thus, a high-Mn steel having the desired composition is obtd.
