PURPOSE: To improve homogeneity by simultaneously adding an aq. soln. of Ca cations and an aq. soln. of phosphoric acid anions to an aq. medium, which is maintained at a specific temp. and pH Value, thereby forming a dispersion contg. 8Ca phosphate and then cooling the dispersion.
CONSTITUTION: The aq. soln. of Ca cations such as Ca acetate with a concentration of about 1 to 10 g/l and the aq. soln. of phosphoric acid anions such as Ha3PO4 with the same concentration are simultaneously added to the aq. medium, which is maintained at a temp. of about 60 to 90°C and a pH value of about 4 to 7, in the stoichiometric amount and at an adding rate of about 0.1 to 0.5 l/hr. and are mixed to produce the dispersion. After the aq. solns. are completely added and then the dispersion is cooled, a deposite is filtrated, washed by water and dried to obtain spherulites of 8Ca phosphate. Next, this 8Ca phosphate is heated in an aq. environment at about 170 to 280°C for 1 to 24 hours or thereabouts, whereby hydroxyapatite is obtd.
