Abstract:
PURPOSE:To easily manufacture the optical fiber array at low cost and to improve the manufacturing efficiency by solidifying a core material and a clad material while making them flow out at the same time, and thus eliminating the need for a process wherein optical fibers are arrayed and adhered after the optical fibers are formed previously. CONSTITUTION:The clad material for coating which is fused is supplied into a clad material thermostatic chamber 1 and the core material for an optical fiber which is fused is supplied into a core material thermostatic chamber 2 arranged inside the clad material thermostatic chamber 1. While this core material is made to flow out of outlet openings 5 for forming cores of a number of optical fibers formed in array on the bottom surface of the core material thermostatic chamber 2 and solidified at the same time, the clad material is made to flow out of clad outlet openings 6 formed on the peripheries of the core outlet ports 5 on the bottom surface of the clad material thermostatic chamber 1 and solidified so as to cover the peripheries of the core materials. Consequently, the need for the process wherein the optical fibers are adhered in array after being manufactured is eliminated, the optical fiber array can easily be manufactured at low cost, and the manufacturing efficiency can be improved.
