Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide the optical multiplexer/demultiplexer for optical fibers which enables necessary-length fusion drawing and has good performance by arranging plural optical fibers in parallel after their coatings are removed, and partially heating and fusing them at plural places and then drawing the whole fused interval part by heat fusing.
CONSTITUTION: The two optical fibers 1 whose coatings are removed are arranged in parallel and are fused at a part 4 by moving a heating torch 7 right and left and then at a part 5 similarly; and the part between the parts 4 and 5 is similarly drawn by heat fusing to manufacture the optical multiplexer/ demultiplexer. By this manufacture, the optical fibers are fused and drawn at relatively low temperature over the length between the parts 4 and 5 and the high-performance optical multiplexer/demultiplexer which is almost circularly sectioned and gently tapered at the drawn part and has low excessive loss (0.3dB) and high wavelength separativeness (20dB) is provided.
