PURPOSE: To reduce the generation of the wall-thickness deviation of a pipe and to improve its quality and yield by detecting the rolling load of each skew roll for a pipe material and moving guide members in their opposite direction so as equalize the rolling loads in manufacturing a pipe by a skew rolling mill.
CONSTITUTION: For detecting rolling loads respectively, load cells S1, S2, S3, S4, for instance, ar provided to the supporting parts 1c of rolling reduction screws 1b connected to respective chocks 1a at both ends of roll axes of skew rolls 1l, 1r. Guide members such as guide shoes 4u, 4d are moved in their opposite direction so as to make the rolling loads of these both rolls 1l, 1r equal to each other, in other words the pass center X of a blank pipe P is controlled so as to coincide with a mill center O by computor control, etc. In this way, the generation of wall-thickness deviation caused by the deviation of the pass center X is reduced.
