PURPOSE: To prevent any active material from separating from a plate, and prevent any contamination with powdery dust, which might be caused due to the said separation of the active material, by making a cellulose derivative to adhere to the surface of a perforated steel plate constituting the plate, and blocking the perforated parts of the perforated steel plate by means of thin films before packing of the active material is carried out.
CONSTITUTION: The lower one of a pair of nickel-plate perforated steel plates is worked into a continuously-wavy shape, and a powdery active material is packed into the grooved parts of the continuously-wavy shape. Next, the upper one of the above pair of steel plates is placed over the lower steel plate, and the upper and the lower plates are connected at their ends before they are cut into an appropriate length. Next, a required number of thus prepared long members are connected in the direction of their width, and are worked into a belt-like member before it is cut into a required length. After that, a grid 2 made of a U-shaped steel is pressed upon and made in contact with the cut surfaces of the belt-like member, and a lag 3 is attached to the top of the belt-like member, thereby obtaining a plate for a pocket-type alkaline storage battery. Here, a cellulose derivative such as CMC (carboxymethylcellulose) or MC (methylcellulose) is made to adhere to the surface of the perforated steel plate, and perforated parts 4 are blocked with thin films 7 before packing of the powdery active material is carried out.
