PURPOSE: To improve the resistance to lateral pressure of a belt, prevent the flexural deformation of the belt in the direction of the lower part of a pulley from occurring and consequently improve its service life by a method wherein short fibers are orientated in the width direction of a forming drum by winding solid sheet round the forming drum to the predetermined thickness.
CONSTITUTION: Short fiber containing gum arabic is prepared by mixing short fibers 6 in gum arabic 9, which is made by dissolving rubber in organic solvent so as to be formed in the shape of sheet, in which the short fibers are orientated in a certain direction, and then dried. The obtained solid sheet 16 is wound round a forming drum to the predetermined thickness so as to be able to contain a large amount of the short fibers 6 in a compressive rubber layer 7. Accordingly, the resistance to lateral pressure of a belt is improved remarkably. Further, since the solid sheet 16 is produced out of the gum arabic 9, the surface of the sheet is smooth, though the sheet contains high concentration of short fiber content. Furthermore, since the dimensions of the sheet are exact, the compressive rubber layer 7 can be laminated accurately to one another.
