MANUFACTURE OF QUENCHED FOIL FOR TRUNCATED CONICAL RING JOINING MEMBER, DEVICE THEREFOR, AND MANUFACTURING NOZZLE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a quenched foil of uniform thickness in the width direction by increasing the width of a slit-shaped opening of a nozzle from a mirror diameter side of a tapered surface of a single roll toward the major diameter side.
SOLUTION: A molten metal 8 in a crucible 4 is jetted onto a tapered surface 2 of a revolving single roll 1 from an opening 6 of a nozzle 5. The molten metal 8 is quenched to be a quenched foil 9, and peeled with the air blowing from a peeling nozzle 10. The width of the opening 6 is gradually increased from the minor diameter (b) side of the single roll 1 toward the major diameter (a) side. Because the feed of the molten metal 8 to the tapered surface 2 is appropriate corresponding to the peripheral speed at every part from the major diameter (a) side to the minor diameter (b) side, the thickness of the quenched foil 9 is uniform. A truncated conical ring is manufactured using the quenched foil 9. Because the truncated conical rings to be inserted in joining surfaces of tubes are uniform in thickness, the joining surfaces of the tubes are closely attached to the rings over the whole surface. The joining strength is improved by the joining with excellent accuracy.
