Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manufacture a roller for a roller bearing without forming any sharp edge at the joint part of the rolling contact surface and the chamfered part of a roller.
SOLUTION: When close-forging the roller for the roller bearing, by using split dies consisting of an upper die 1B for forming the rolling contact surface of the roller and a lower die 1A for forming a chamfered part R, a step difference 12 enlarged in the outside diameter of the rolling contact surface of the roller is formed at the position of the joint part 4 of the upper die 1B and the lower die 1A of the forged roller. Next, the outside diameter surface of the forded product is ground to remove the step difference 12, and then is barreled. Since grinding is performed so that the step difference 12 is removed, a sharp edge like a conventional method is not formed on the joint part 4.
