Abstract:

PURPOSE: To manufacture a high quality seamless steel tube at a low cost by heating a martensitic high Cr steel billet under specified conditions, regulating the temp. of the billet to a prescribed piercing temp. and piercing the billet so as to inhibit the occurrence of interior cupelling flaws.

CONSTITUTION: When a seamless steel tube is manufactured by piercing a martensitic high Cr steel billet contg. ≥8wt% Cr, the billet is previously heat treated at 950W1,500°C for ≥30min. The temp. of the billet is then regulated to a prescribed piercing temp., preferably 1,000W1,200°C and the billet is pierced. The occurrence of interior defects is inhibited and a seamless high Cr steel tube having superior corrosion resistance is manufactured.
