Title:
MANUFACTURE OF SEMI-SOLIDIFIED METALLIC SLURRY BY MAGNETIC STIRRER
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3207965
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:
PURPOSE: To continuously discharge semi-solidified slurry having high solid rate by stirring semi-solidified slurry with a spiral moving magnetic flux in the downward direction generated by an electromagnetic induction coil.
CONSTITUTION: When melted metal 15 is supplied in a tundish 1, stirring and discharging force is applied between the outside wall surface of a core and the inside wall surface of a cooling and stirring tank with turning flow by adequate cooling in the cooling and stirring tank and the spiral moving magnetic flux in the downward direction generated by a moving magnetic flux generating device 4. The melted metal is changed to semi-solidified slurry 15-1 including a first crystal grain generated during solidifying process. The slurry 15-1 is moved downward and discharged to the outside of device through a discharging nozzle 5 as semi-solidified metallic slurry flow 16. The solid phase rate of discharged semi-solidified metallic slurry is controlled by adjusting the clearance between the tip end of core 6 and the discharging nozzle 5. The operating conditions are checked by measuring the torque applied on the core 6 by a torque gage 10 connected to the core 6.
