To improve the wear resistance and seizure resistance of a shoe by pressing a top part of a spherical outer circumferential surface of the shoe to the radius of curvature close to that of a product in the pre-forming stage, and then, forming the pressed part to the desired shape of the product.

A shoe 10 is pressed in two stages. In the first process, a top part of the shoe 10 is preliminarily formed to the radius of curvature slightly larger than that of the top part to obtain an intermediate article 30. In the second process, the intermediate article is formed into the product shoe 10. The outer circumferential surface of the shoe 10 preferably comprises a skirt part of the specified radius of curvature, a top part of the radius of curvature larger than that of the skirt part, and a transition part to smoothly connect the skirt part to the top part. A stock 20 is die-forged spherical to form a spherical body 22, the spherical body 22 is formed into the shoe 10 through flushing, grinding, annealing, and pressing, and then, the shoe 10 is nitrided, tempered, plane-ground, and barreled. In the first process of the pressing, a die to form a spherical outer circumferential surface is used for a lower die, while it is used for an upper die in the second process.
