PURPOSE: To prevent twisting or curving, decrease shearing load, reduce shearing time and obtain short bent fibers of metal with a good attachment property by shearing a thin plate outward at both ends of its width in such a way as to pull the acting force from inside out.
CONSTITUTION: The forward end of a slit material 13 which is conveyed onto a lower blade 9 of a shearing device 7 is protruded for a predetermined quantity, and an upper blade 8 descends synchronously with the conveyance speed, where a protruding part 10 presses the slit material 13 at its center 13a, shearing it from the center 13a toward both ends 13b. On the slit material 13 is applied a force to press the starting point of shearing downward and pull the material from the center 13a outward, and a short fiber of metal which is linear and bent in the shape of chevron at the starting point of shearing at the center is obtained. Since a blade surface 8a is not contacted with the sit material 13 uniformly at the same time. shearing load can be reduced, and life of the blade surface 8a can be increased, while a bent part can be formed simultaneously with cutting, thereby secondary work is not required.
