Abstract:
PURPOSE: To manufacture homogeneous SiC powder having a uniform particle size and a uniform shape by mixing silica powder or a substance contg. silica with carbon powder and SiC powder synthesized by a silica reducing method and by calcining the mixture in a nonoxidizing atmosphere.
CONSTITUTION: 1 Part by weight as silica of silica powder or a substance contg. silica is mixed with 0.5W4 parts as carbon of carbon powder or a substance forming carbon by calcination and 0.005W1 part SiC powder synthesized by a silica reducing method. The powdered mixture is calcined at 1,350W1,850°C in a nonoxidizing atmosphere. When carbon is used in excess, treatment under heating air is carried out to remove residual carbon by oxidation.
