Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain a single crystal of high practicality by cutting grooves in a seed crystal to increase the amount of meniscus in contact with a melt and detect a weight change of the weed crystal with high sensitivity when a single crystal is manufactured by a pulling method. CONSTITUTION:When a single crystal is manufactured by pulling up seed crystal 4 brought into contact with a melt in crucible, a plurality of grooves 5 are longitudinally cut in crystal 4 so that the crystal bottom is notched, and by bringing crystal 4 into contact with crystal melt 2 in a crucible, much melt 2 is raised by capillarity due to grooves 5 to form large meniscus 3. As a result, a weight change of crystal 4 due to meniscus 3 is considrably increased as compared to a conventional method, and the change is detected with high sensitivity to enable a crystal manufacturing process to be automated. In addition, a single crystal is obtd. with high productivity and high efficiency.
