PURPOSE: To reduce the number of adhesional processes by packing a soft filler into a packing chamber which is formed on the lid and connected to an electrode pole insertion area, packing an adhesive in a peripheral area located over the back surface of the lid as well as in the electrode pole insertion area and inserting the electrode poles of plate groups installed in a container into the electrode pole insertion area.
CONSTITUTION: Clay 15 used as a filler is packed in a packing chamber 12 formed by attaching a packing chamber formation cup 13 to a lid 1. Next, an adhesive 15 is packed in an area which is placed on the back surface of the lid and in which a U- shaped intercellular connection body 4 is buried as well as in an electrode pole insertion area 14 or a peripheral area stuck to a container 2. Next, the container 2 in which plate groups 3 are placed is invertedly placed over the lid 1 placed with the back surface of the lid 1 directed upward, so that a terminal electrode pole 6 reaches the adhesive 5 and the packing chamber 12 and buried in the clay 15. Then the adhesive 5 is solidified before the battery is returned to its normal position. After that, the cup 13 and the clay 15 are removed, a lead wire 10 is soldered and an upper lid 11 is attached, thereby completing a battery. Instead of the clay 15, a solid such as a foaming agent or paraffin or a liquid such as mercury may be used.
