PURPOSE: To obtain a high-quality filter easily by forming a film of an amphoteric material, such as gelatin, on a transparent substrate, by dyeing the 1st layer by inactiviating either one of an NH2-group and a COOH-group, and then by dyeing the 2nd layer and following layers by inactivating groups having the opposite properties.
CONSTITUTION: A transparent substrate 1 is applied with a solution obtained by adding a metachromatic agent, inactivating either one of an NH2- and a COOH- group, and glyoxal to a protein solution of gelatin and casein, thereby forming an insoluble thin layer 2. Photoresist 3, provided on the layer 2, is used for exposure and development and after the layer 2 wherein NH2, for example, is sealed off is dyed with basic dye, the remaining resist 3A is removed to obtain stripes 2A in the 1st color. On the layer 2, a layer 6 wherein COOH- is sealed off is formed and on it, a resist layer is further formed; and a filter 5 for the 2nd color is used for dyeing with acidic dye, thus obtaining the 2nd stripe layer 6A. Similarly, the 3rd stripe layer 8A is also formed. Consequently, an excellent stripe filter whose layers 2A, 6A and 8A and undyed area are not contaminated at all is obtained.
