Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a material with a sufficient strength and performance and thereby increase an yield by hot plastic-deforming powdery sintered substance and spreading it and then forging it by hot-upsetting so that crystal grains of the powdery sintered organization may be oriented in a crystal orientation with an excellent performance index.
SOLUTION: Bismuth, tellurium, and selenium are weighed out so as to meet a stoichiometric radio Bi2Te2.7Se0.30 and then an appropriate quantity of a compound for adjusting the carrier density is added. Then, this mixture is melted and mixed and solidified to make ingot substance. After the ingot substance has been ground by a ball mill, it is put through a 400-mesh sieve to make all the grains remaining on the sieve of uniform grain diameter of about 34-106 μm. After the grains are made uniform, a specified quantity of the powder is supplied into a glass ampul of a specified capacity under evacuation and then hydrogen is injected. After that, a glass ampul is sealed, and the powder in it is heat-treated in a heating furnace heated at 350°C. The Seebeck factor of this sintered ingot is negative and therefore the material has an n-conductivity type. Then, this material is forged by hot upsetting. By this method, there is no decline in density due to cracks or other troubles at the time of forging and thereby an yield can be increased.
