Abstract:
PURPOSE:To manufacture a derivative of thiazolidine carboxylic acid which is useful as a hypotensive drug industrially at a low cost, by the electrolytic reduction of org. thiazosulfide having a specific structural formula. CONSTITUTION:A compound shown by formula I, or its NH4 salt, org. amine salt, or alkali metal salt, is electrolytically reduced using platinum or silver, which is generally used, as an electrode to form a compound shown by a formula II. The electrolytic reduction is performed at a voltage of 0.5-50V, preferably 1-10V 0.2-25A/dcm<2> current density. As a compound shown by the formula I is used for example: (4R,4'R)-3,3'-[3, 3'-dithiobis(propanoyl)]bis[2-[2-(2-hydroxyphenyl)]-4- thiazolidine carboxylic acid ], and an example for the compound shown by the formula 11 is (4R)-2-(2-hydroxyphenyl)-3-(3-mercaptopropanoyl)-4-thiazolidine carboxylic acid.
